Per-kg or per-item: what is the difference?

Laundries in Mumbai use two pricing methods. Per-kg pricing is used for everyday clothes that are washed together in one load — T-shirts, shirts, jeans, nightwear, innerwear and kids’ clothes. Your bag is weighed and you pay for the total weight.

Per-item pricing is used for garments that are cleaned one at a time: dry cleaning, ethnic wear, blazers, blankets, shoes and curtains. These need individual stain treatment and finishing, so weight does not reflect the work involved.

How much do common clothes weigh?

These are rough, dry weights to help you estimate an order. Actual weight depends on fabric and size.
